Art in Situ - Art in the theatre - The Almeida Theatre, Islington

Hart Gallery art works have been exhibited centre stage at The Almeida Theatre, Islington.

Hart Gallery provided a selection of ceramics by Chris Carter and paintings by Gareth Edwards to dress the set of the play, Edward Albee's "The Goat or Who is Sylvia".

The whole set was beautifully designed by Hildegard Bechtler.

The Hart Gallery has been responsible for putting together a collection of artwork for the Bradford and Bingley headquarters in London. The project has involved placing a total of 35 original works of art throughout the building. Working with the gallery artists, a number of works were selected for various locations including the reception area, the waiting room and the meeting room, creating an exciting and interesting environment for both employees and clients.

Having considered the values and ideas central to Bradford and Bingley, the Hart Gallery proposed a collection of artwork that somehow relates to these themes. As an organisation originally based in Yorkshire, the Hart Gallery artists selected for the Bradford and Bingley headquarters all have Yorkshire connections, be it as their birthplace, home, place of work, or more importantly, their inspiration.

Included in the collection are paintings by David Blackburn, Kenneth Draper and Malcolm Whittaker and a large platter by one of Britain’s most established ceramicists, Sutton Taylor. Just as these artists have developed in their artistic careers to become more renowned both nationally and internationally, so too has the Bradford and Bingley organisation.
